Bill Uglow is a seasoned executive in entertainment licensing and retail development, renowned for his pivotal role in creating the first Disney Store. As Director of Disney Merchandise, he designed the store’s layout, sourced merchandise, and launched a highly successful retail model. Later, as President of Retail at MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas, Uglow managed 20 stores with 25,000 items, achieving industry-leading revenue and profit per square foot. Throughout his career, he has introduced over 50,000 products to the market and opened 71 retail stores for major entities like Walt Disney Company and MGM Grand Hotel. Uglow also designed and launched the world’s first Nike Golf store in Las Vegas and has represented over 300 celebrity brands, including Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe, to create unique retail experiences. His extensive experience spans senior executive roles in companies such as The Walt Disney Company, United Football League, Professional Bull Riders, Tomy Toys, and MGM Grand Hotel and Resort. Notably, as Vice President of Consumer Products & Licensing for the Professional Bull Riders, he oversaw the licensing of the PBR Rock Bar & Grill in Las Vegas, which generates over $20 million in annual sales. Licensing is “renting” a legally protected entity – a name, likeness, logo, trademark, graphic design, slogan, signature, person, animated character, or a combination of several of these elements. This entity, known as intellectual property (IP), is then used to promote or sell a product or movie or restaurant or live show. That becomes a licensed product. Sales from licensed products generates royalties for the licensor. Because the licensee is responsible for the investment in the licensed product, the licensor enjoys significant ROI without risk of investment or significant overhead. The licensee benefits by generating new revenue.
